How the Feetle leaderboard works
Every day at 08:00 UTC, Feetle hands everyone the same four-letter start word and the same finish line, FEET. That shared puzzle is what makes a daily board fair: a five-step ladder today means the same thing for every player on this page.
The Feetle leaderboard ranks each finished ladder by the fewest steps. Ties go to the player who used fewer hints, then to the faster time, counted from your first word to FEET, and then to whoever finished first. The board shows the top 100 and refreshes about once a minute.
Only your first game counts
Your first finished game of the day is the one that goes on the board. Playing again in another tab, or after clearing your browser, doesn't replace it. Our server checks every ladder again before it ranks it, from the start word through each step to FEET, so a score can't be typed in by hand.
A game you give up still counts as played, so it shows in the number of players, but it never appears on the board. Archive replays and unlimited rounds aren't ranked; they're for practice.
No spoilers on the board
The board never shows anyone's words. You see a name, steps against par, hints and time, and nothing that gives today's ladder away. For the route itself, the answer page has hints today and the full answer the next day.
Put your name on the board
There's no account. When you finish today's puzzle, the end panel shows your place, like #12 of 87 today, and once ten people have played, the share of them you beat. Type a name under Put your name on today's board and it appears next to your score. Leave it empty and you get a stand-in name such as Swift Heron. Names that read as rude get a stand-in too.
How to climb the Feetle leaderboard
Par is the floor: nobody can beat it, so the top of the board is a race among on-par ladders with no hints. Look for a word one step from FEET early, such as BEET, FEEL or FEES, and work backward from it. Undo costs nothing here, but every hint does. When the day ends the board is final, and the next one starts empty.
Leaderboard questions
How often does the Feetle leaderboard update?
About once a minute. A finished game shows up on the next refresh.
Why isn't my name on the leaderboard?
The board lists the day's top 100 finished games. Below that, this page still shows your place and the share of players you beat. Give-ups, archive replays and unlimited rounds aren't ranked.
Do I need an account to be on the board?
No. Finish today's puzzle and your first game is ranked. A name is optional.
How are ties broken?
Fewer steps first, then fewer hints, then the faster time from your first word to FEET, then whoever finished first.
Can I see yesterday's board?
Yes. Use the arrows above the board to step back a day. A past board is final: it took games until half an hour after the next puzzle went live.
